Last year I bought a cheap cardboard advent calendar. You know the one which you open the numbered door each day as you counted down to Christmas. There were no lollies or treats, just a picture of a lamp or a donkey. But strangely it was still fun and I think that stemmed from my childhood when my brother and I would take it in turn each day to open our advent calendar and eat the choccie hidden inside. So much excitement and a real treat! It is memory-making stuff.
This year I wanted to do something a bit more creative, but being around report writing time I couldn’t spend too much time making it. What is something that Kirk and I enjoy, that is fun for adults, which will suit this sweltering hot time of year in QLD….? A Beer Advent Calendar! Derr.
Kirk and I went down to the local bottlo and picked out a range of unusual beers, one for each of the 12 days of Christmas (24 days/24 bottles of beer seemed like a bit of an overkill and it would be expensive). I made little numbered flags to go with each bottle and whala (Aussie version of voila) – it was done!
I realise it’s not the most healthy option, but hey, it is Christmas and you gotta be a little bit flex. I am looking forward to getting down to the final countdown and sharing a nice cold bottle of unique beer with my favourite person this festive season.
Do you have an advent calendar this year? Please share what you did in the comments!
P.S. For those following a starch-free diet, the starch in beer ferments and we have tested a few beers and it hasn’t given Kirk any back troubles or AS outbreaks. BUT everyone is different, with different sensitivities, so make sure you test it out on yourself first. It would suck to suffer with pain during the holiday season all because of your advent calendar!
