I was one of those kids who would shove pasta into my mouth, chew a few times and then swallow. I would then hear my parents say, “chew your food!“. Chew your food? There is no time for chewing! Chewing is so overrated.
Now I am an adult and actually understand what overrated means, I still have to remind myself to chew my food. Did you know that chewing is a very important part of digestion, and your digestive system is relying on you chewing your food properly. Your saliva and teeth start the breakdown process, which makes is much easy for the rest of you to process the remains.
If you don’t chew, you end up opening yourself to a variety of digestive disorders: pop-squeaking (farting), burping, indigestion, irritable bowel or even cancer.
To aid digestion, you can drink a cup of warm water and lemon every morning. Lemon juice helps flush out unwanted materials and it encourages the liver to produce bile which is an acid that required for digestion. Efficient digestion reduces heartburn and constipation. Warm lemon water also has a lot of other good benefits for the body.
So, remember to chew and drink lemons (lemonade doesn’t count).
