Movie Jaffa Custard

Who doesn’t like a bit of a backyard, movie flick session! One of my favourite past times as a child was sitting on top of our car watching movies at the Drive-In. Sitting under the open sky with the stars – beautiful.
One of my beautiful besties was having a birthday so I threw a surprise outdoor movie party for her and some of her close friends. It would be something different and hopefully she would be feeling the love from all of us.
Hubby and I turned our backyard into an outdoor movie theatre, complete with fairy lights, hanging mirror balls, cushions, speakers, big white screen and the flick ‘Bridesmaids’ (so funny!). We also had an array of movie snacks (The Bee Movie Chai Cupcakes, Enchanted Mushroom Dip, Bollywood Spicy Hummus Dip, Popcorn, Gourmet Choc Tops, Movie Munchies, Celebrity Pills/Ferrero Rochers, etc), including loads more food that the party guests brought along with them. As part of the theatre menu, we enjoyed eating some Movie Jaffa Custard (recipe by Cyndi O’Meara). I made this in the Thermomix, but you can adapt with what tools you have in your kitchen.
Before I share this recipe with you, here is a glimpse of the evening:
Movie Jaffa Custard
- 30g cornflour
- 60g rapadura sugar
- 500g milk
- zest 1 orange
- 100g dark chocolate
- 2 eggs
- Danish Contreau (optional)
- Place cornflour, zest, rapadura sugar into the Thermomix mixing bowl and mill for 10 seconds on speed 10.
- Add chocolate and mill for 8 seconds on speed 10.
- Add remaining ingredients and cook for 7 minutes at 80C on speed 4
- For a thicker consistency, cook for a further 1 minute on 100C on speed 4
